Reference study. This rebuilds the experience of basement.studio from scratch, to prove the engineering behind it. None of its code, assets or copy is used, and the design is not presented as original to this studio.
The problem
Basement’s site is carried by a single set piece. The question was whether the underlying structure still holds when that set piece is replaced with something that belongs to a different studio.
The approach
Geist at 600 throughout, −0.04em tracking, a 12-column 1920px grid, and eight blocks. The hero was rebuilt as an architecture wireframe instead of a room.
The outcome
Unfinished, and shown that way. It survives on three projects; it has not been proven past that.
